All right, let's begin.

First off, I do not wish to offend. Everyone has their rights. If you are a fan of slash, good for you. I will not post hate-comments on your works or condemn you or anything. But I have my rights as well.

To begin with: I am a HUGE Lord of the Rins fan. I was introduced to the books (including the Hobbit) by my dad (who is a pastor, by the way) when I was 11 years old. Before that, I had stopped reading for a while. I hadn't been into books for a long time. But when I read Tolkien's works, reading became something beautiful again. I was devouring the whole mythology about Middle Earth and about the Elves and Dwarves and the Istari and the Hobbits. I have been a fan of Tolkien and Middle Earth ever since. And I am now almost 20. I own at least 2 copies of The Hobbit and LotR, and I own the Extended Editions of the films, boxed set as well.
I own many books about the History of Middle Earth, including the Silmarillion. I have movie guides, and art books, and some maps.

Let's just say I am a BIG FAN of LotR and ALL things Tolkien.

That is why I MUST speak out against all this SLASH to Tolkien's Characters!

Don't you know it's a spit in Tolkien's face when that happens???? Tolkien was a heterosexual, Christian man, who LOVED his wife and who was BEST FRIENDS with C.S. LEWIS.

C.S. LEWIS! The man who wrote Narnia as an Allegory to the story of Christ and his death and resurrection!

I can assure you, these men would not have approved their characters being made as same-sex couples. It may have even angered them.

But let's stick to Tolkien. And I will begin with my biggest pet-peeve. The Hobbits.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to make MERRY and PIPPIN as a same-sex couple! They were COUSINS! Not second cousins or third cousins. FIRST cousins.
We think it's gross to marry our first cousin when it's opposite sex! How many cousins marry each other nowadays? Especially same-sex??? It's just impossible.

But my biggest gripe is FRODO and SAM. I can see how people can think they were gay. But think about this. Tolkien had many good friends that were men. He loved his friends. That DOESN'T mean he was attracted to those friends! Why can't we just leave it that the two hobbits had a tight bond, like BROTHERS? Or as even father and son???? Must we warp everything???
So what if Sam asks Frodo to lay his head in his lap??? What would YOU say to your best friend that you've known all your life if they were DEAD TIRED, carrying a heavy weight, in a desert wasteland??? Would you be like, "Get away. If you're so tired, go find a rock to sleep on"?? No! You would try to help them, especially if you weren't as tired as they were! I know I would offer my shoulder to rest on, if they wanted.

SACRIFICE. That's the whole point of the story. Yes. Sam loves Frodo, but in the same way the JESUS CHRIST loves his disciples! He loves them sacrificially.
And besides all that, SAM LOVES ROSIE COTTON. Read the book. He chooses to stay with Rosie and spend a loving life of marriage and family rather than go to the Undying Lands with his best friend.

Now we move to other characters.

My second biggest pet peeve is this: BOROMIR and FARAMIR. I mean, what in the world??? THEY ARE BROTHERS! That's just DISGUSTING. Can't you see how messed up that is? Besides, FARAMIR MARRIES EOWYN. Which also brings another thought to mind: EOWYN and ARWEN would NEVER HAPPEN. Arwen gave up her IMMORTALITY for Aragorn! Do you really think her love would be so shallow that she would even THINK about loving someone else, let alone another woman?? No.

Aragorn and Legolas is another one. All I can ask is: WHY? Just because Legolas has long blonde hair and blue eyes doesn't make him a drag queen. GROW UP. Elves are high above being prissy and girly like people make him out to be. And ARAGORN LOVES ARWEN. He loved her from the first moment he saw her! Sorry, guys. There's no one else for that man!

And Gimli and Legolas????? No Way! Just because it's another close friendship! Gimli would probably chop you into pieces if he heard you insinuating anything between him and Legolas. So what if Legolas was afraid for Gimli's safety at Helm's Deep??? If you were fighting for your life with your best friend and you lost track of them, wouldn't that scare you too?? It doesn't mean anything. And Gimli adores Galadriel! Last time I checked, he treasured HER three locks of hair, NOT Legolas's!

Aragorn and Boromir: GROSS! Once again: ARAGORN LOVES ARWEN. And Boromir was not that kind of man! He loved his people. WHY Do people always make Boromir like that anyways? Out of all the characters, he gets the most crap. Is it because Aragorn kisses his forehead after he's dead? Well a LOT of countries do that! Some cultures kiss in greeting! Doesn't make it same-sex! Boromir was a fighter, passionate for his country. He showed respect for Aragorn as any loyal countryman would because Aragorn is the CHOSEN KING. So get up off!

So! I have now spoken. I really did not want to make people upset, though I bet I will. I just don't agree with slash. I think it's wrong. And when people put slash into my favorite story of all time, it's like a slap to my face.
TOLKIEN WOULD HAVE NOT LIKED IT. This I firmly believe. He based the story of Beren and Luthien after the love between him and his wife. And Beren and Luthien is one of the most wonderful love stories Tolkien ever wrote!

Lord of the Rings is about Sacrifice, Loyalty, Friendship, and Love. Good defeating Evil. And, think about this. Next time you want to make Faramir and Aragorn having a secret tryst when Aragorn's King, remember what Tolkien wrote: Faramir said Eowyn was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen and that he loved her. They had a son together and lived in Emyn Arnen. Aragorn finally married the woman he loved for so long, and they also had a son, but ALSO had many daughters as well. After Aragorn dies, Arwen bitterly mourns his death. Now, do you think she would have bitterly mourned his death if he had an affair with another man?? I know I wouldn't. And if you try to make an excuse about Arwen not knowing? I'm sure after being married to a man, you would find out somehow. When you marry someone, they become a part of you. You find out all about them eventually. The secret wouldn't have lasted for long, IF there WAS a secret, which there WAS NOT.

Same goes for the hobbits. Merry, Pippin and Sam all marry female hobbits and live out their lives happily, with children. Sam and Rosie have at least THIRTEEN kids. Now, it could be said that the hobbits could have had a fling with each other and then forgot about it and married their wives. But the way I see it, even when a married man and a married woman have an affair with each other, it isn't forgotten, and it soon comes back to haunt them, sometimes resulting in their running off together to leave their spouses heartbroken. Same goes for same-sex marriages, from what I've been told.

This is beginning to get long so I'll wrap it up by saying, this is just me voicing my opinion. I am not trying to bait or humiliate anybody. This isn't written to or for anybody. Like the title says: I MUST say what is on my mind.

If I offended anyone, please tell me. And if someone watches me and feel like they don't want to watch me any more, that's fine. Just please don't sue me or anything. Just tell me what you think. I won't degrade anyone or tell them they're stupid for not agreeing with me. This has just been on my mind recently and I HAD to spout it out.
